Video Challenge – Day 1: Introduction

I’ve been meaning to use online video for a loooong time, and I finally faced my fears and launched my first video.

I must admit the camera is an intimidating device. I had to take mine out for dinner to break the ice and feel more comfortable speaking to it.

This isn’t the bestest of videos, and I’ve already noticed quite a few ways to improve the video, as well as some omissions. But I won’t be polishing the video or doing more retakes (the above video was the 3rd retake), so I don’t obsess about getting it perfect and stop publishing.

There’s a lot for me to learn and get used to, which is why I’ve set this video challenge for myself.

And thanks to Mark for the inspiration!

Mmm … My answer to that question would a bit unique, simply: because I don’t care what people think of me, how I act, or even how I look as long as I’m comfortable!

Nice video Haider! And congrats on the positive changes you are making in your life.

As for why it’s difficult to make changes, I think the answer is complex. In physics, the law of inertia states that things tend to keep doing what they are doing, so that’s part of it. Also, as mammals, we develop “neural pathways” that aren’t too different than those animal tracks you see in the woods or how the cows always take the same trail home. Did you know that many modern highways were built on trails that were first laid down by migrating animals? That’s how powerful repetition can be!

However we can use repetition to our advantage by repeating the new pattern over time. It also helps to enlist the subconscious mind, where automatic behavior originates. Hypnosis is a powerful tool in this regard.

@Haider: Just to make things clear, by my last comment i did not mean that I am ignorant, behave like a jerk, or even dont take care of myself!

For example, people always tell me that my beard looks hideous, but because I think there is nothing wrong with it, i dont care to what they say! Also … *thinks* … wait, you might be right, i do know i am a bit overweight, but i think i look okay! … eh, cause i dont care? <– and we're back to square one XD

Because the changes doesnt happen quickly.
When I apply a new practice I expect a change in my life and most of the people need it quickly. Usually its not quick so people give up! .

Peer pressure: example “liish tabeen teth3feeeen???” that and then like you said sometimes it is lack of motivation or even getting bored

Aloha Haider! I am so impressed at your ease in doing video! I love that you are doing it and may have to take a page out of your book…or Mark’s or whoever started this 2 week challenge idea. 🙂

I believe change is difficult to maintain because we are usually trying to make a change that is outwardly motivated not what we intrinsically need or desire.
Finding our truth and our own direction can help us make a bee line to new ways of being.

I’m thrilled to know that you’re enjoying the videos, and I hope to be an inspiration to you as Mark was an inspiration to me. 😀

And I’m loving the fact that the simple question I asked is getting so many different answers in return. I just had a mini-chat with my mum, and she mentioned several reasons that are all very important. In this series I’ll focus on one major reason (which I revealed in the 2nd video), and the way other reasons stem from it, but there are certainly many more reasons that I won’t be covering (at least not during the challenge).

Anyway, there are many factors but most recently from my experience, is the environment. Because almost all the elements you can control and tailor. When you want to change something, whether it is an eating habit, a lifestyle, how you behave, it is easier to do it without all the distractions, social baggage, exceptions and old history of yourself or as people who know you notice the change and interrogations begin and never ending hassle.
I’m not saying it’ll prevent someone from changing themselves but changing without changing the environment needs a strong commitment, utter belief in your decision, unwavering will and good luck 😀

Bloggylife, that would be nice. I’ve seen some sites that allow video in comments, but gonna have to sort a few things out with the site before I look into video comments.

The environment can be a major influence, but the reason I address in this series is about our psychological environment, and is a majorer (if not the majorest) reason! 😉
