Video Challenge – Day 5: Negatively Positive

(If you can’t see the video, click through to the post, or check out theΒ YouTube video)

“Positive” is a word used very liberally in personal development literature, and often hailed as the solution to all our problems.

In this video, I explain why both a positive and a negative self-image are bad.

Do you agree? Disagree? Would you like to add to what I’ve mentioned?

If so, share your thoughts in the comments section! πŸ˜€

Dear Haider,

I’ve been watching your videos and as of yet I have not made up my mind on whether or not I agree or disagree with you. I am still waiting for your solution or alternate suggestions.

I’m not a fan of the multiple, 2 minute video format. At the end of each video I feel frustrated at the lack of resolution and main point. I guess it keeps people coming back for more, but if this was in one or two videos I would have watched it all anyways.

So at this point, I’m feeling frustrated. It’s like only being allowed to read 1 paragraph of an article at a time.

How many more videos are there in this series?

On a positive note, I think you speak very clearly and I like the examples you provide to help illustrate your points.

*cough* … Haidar, you do realized that what you’re doing is actually confusing us? One day you tell us some thing and I say sure, let me do that! The day after, you make me stop doing what i started the day before! … I guess, I’ll stick to the normal me and going to watch this till the end, then start doing them! … but it’s entertaining that way XD

Aoha Haider!
I am not sure why but i really “get” what you are saying and have seen much confusion and difficulty by people following the positive self image mind set.
This concept of positive self image, at least in my work, causes deep rifts in the being.
I am excited to continue the videos. (Personally I like the short bite each day as I may have shelved a longer segment to view for another time and never gone back to it (of course because it was yours I’d get to it but if it was a blogger I was less familiar with I may not remember).
Thanks for the deeper view of Self!

Mona, thank you very much for your feedback. I personally felt that I wasn’t saying enough in each video, so I share your frustration. πŸ™‚

The next video will be a recap of what we’ve covered and some practical steps to take to abandon the self-image. Hopefully that’ll put everything in perspective.

There are a few more days on the self-image topic before I move on to talking about the Personal Growth Map.

AnxiousNut, stop being so anxious! πŸ˜›

Once again, apologies for the confusion. I mentioned why I got you to do that labeling exercise in a previous comment. If there is anything else you found confusing, please let me know and I’ll address it in a video.

Gina, what typo? πŸ˜‰

“Deep rifts in the being”… That’s exactly it! There are LOADS of examples of how this happens, which I’d love to explore. But after the challenge. πŸ™‚

Bloggylife, I usually laugh and cry at the same time. Mostly cry. And blame the parents. πŸ˜›
