There are too many places to leave a comment for you; here, Facebook, Twitter, other place I don’t know about yet. Some comment balance is required.
In a recent leadership training we were taught not to try and be good at all of our 16 leadership competencies. It was better to focus on the good ones and be better at them. The rest will follow.
In the ancient game of Go balance gives better chances of success.
I think the situation you are in dictates your actions.

It’s definitely wise to focus on your strengths. But there are characteristics that can actually drag you down, which you may need to address first as problem areas. Having said that – and like you said – at times working on another quality or area will help address the problem area itself.
